UA COMMUNITY GARDEN

Our Mission

The mission of the Garden Committee is to engage the Tucson community by teaching its citizens about sustainable urban agriculture, as well as expanding access to organic, productive growing spaces in our Sonoran desert climate. The UA Community Garden was founded in 2012 by a passionate group of students, who, along with generous funding from the UA Green Fund, transformed the space just north of the Highland Parking Garage into an all organic garden with approximately 100 3’ x 7’ cultivable plots available to rent by anyone in the community.

Today, the garden serves as an important bridge between the UA and Tucson communities and remains completely student-run. It is managed by a group of between 15-20 students who work together to maintain the garden spaces as well as design demonstration plots, manage finances and administrative tasks, promote sustainable agriculture in Tucson, and educate the community about the values of sustainability, collaboration, and giving back.
