Our Mission
The mission of the Energy & Climate committee is to highlight the role of conventional, centralized energy production in perpetuating and amplifying global climate change, and to propose meaningful mitigation and adaptation responses at the University of Arizona. The committee seeks to initiate dialogue throughout the UA campus on how climate change should be addressed institutionally and engage with UA administration to commit to a meaningful, up-to-date climate action plan that includes transitioning to campus-wide net neutral carbon emissions by 2050 or sooner. This work strives to incorporate as many sectors of the University as possible, from students and faculty, to clubs, alumni, and the wider Tucson community.
The committee meets at least once a week, where topics including climate justice, green economics, eco-feminism, Arizona energy production, and successful social movements are discussed. These perspectives are integrated into the committee’s work to build strong, sensible and comprehensive arguments for how and why the UA should address global climate change as a leading academic institution.
